We chose careers as Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs)
because it offers us the opportunity to provide doctors with important information necessary to diagnose and treat patients. Our role is to be the medical detectives and it is rewarding to watch patients get better as we work closely with doctors to help them monitor patient progress.

Great things are happening in laboratory science. A baccalaureate
level degree in this career field has given me an added value of learning and using the most advanced medical technology to support patient diagnosis and treatment. The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) can perform more complex laboratory analyses and can also advance within the profession to supervisory, managerial, educational and specialist roles.
KRISTI BECK
I changed my career and became a medical laboratory technician when I was 45 years old. The medical field had always been of interest to me and I liked the sciences such as chemistry, microbiology and physiology. I also felt these jobs would be more secure. Once I researched the Medical Laboratory Technician career, I discovered it was a high-demand career field with a good wage. I secured a job right away after I graduated and when the economy went bad I never felt like I would lose my job.
KEVIN CONWAY
I wanted a career in health care and wasn't sure exactly what I was
looking for. I took a course in Phlebotomy and was hired at a local hospital. I loved the patient interaction and the challenges of doing my job, but I felt there was still something missing. I quickly realized that my true passion was to run the tests and perform the duties of a Medical Laboratory Technician. My desire to learn and my curiosity of the human body propelled me into the Medical Laboratory Science profession.
